MomCare Eligibility

Most women are eligible for enrollment in the MomCare Program and pregnancy Medicaid coverage in one of two ways:

  1. Temporary Medicaid or Presumptive Eligibility for Pregnant Women (PEPW)
  2. Undocumented, non-citizens, or those women in a non-qualifying immigration status may be eligible for Medicaid coverage on a temporary basis for up to 60 days, if they meet the income criteria listed below. PEPW coverage is based on a positive pregnancy test and minimal personal and financial information. This Medicaid only pays for outpatient prenatal care services and does not cover the birth of the baby. Women can apply at their local Broward Health or Memorial Healthcare System prenatal care center for the PEPW coverage where they will also receive prenatal care. Women who receive this coverage will be enrolled in the MomCare Program for the duration of their PEPW coverage. To obtain a list of PEPW application and prenatal care sites, please see the page “How to apply for Medicaid for pregnant women”.

  3. Full Medicaid or Simplified Eligibility for Pregnant Women (SEPW)
  4. Women born in the U.S. or those who are in the U.S. under a qualifying immigration status and meet the income criteria listed below are eligible for full Medicaid coverage for their prenatal care and birth of the baby, in addition to 2 months of postpartum coverage. After birth, the baby is eligible for Medicaid for the first year of life and the mother is eligible for up to two years of family planning (birth control) Medicaid coverage. Women can apply through a simplified eligibility process through the Department of Children and Families (DCF) for full Medicaid while they are pregnant.
